AR Dart Game

Augmented Reality

Role: Solo Developer Engine: Unity AR Foundation Platform: Android / iOS

Overview

AR Dart Game is an augmented reality mobile game built with Unity AR Foundation. The player uses their device camera to scan a flat surface, places a dartboard in the real world, and throws darts at it. The game uses AR plane detection to anchor the board to real surfaces and touch input to control dart throw direction and power. Built as a practical application of my Mobile AR Development certification from Unity Technologies.

Key Programming Features

  • → AR plane detection using Unity AR Foundation to identify flat surfaces in the real environment
  • → World-space dartboard placement — the board anchors to detected surfaces via AR raycasting
  • → Physics-based dart throw system with touch swipe mapped to throw direction and force
  • → Score zones on the dartboard with collision detection per ring segment
  • → Session persistence — board position stays locked after placement so the player can move around it
  • → Mobile-optimized performance — minimized AR tracking overhead for smooth frame rates on mid-range devices

What I Learned

Working with AR Foundation taught me how differently mobile AR projects behave compared to standard Unity development. Managing the AR session lifecycle, handling plane detection events, and placing objects in world space required thinking in 3D coordinate systems anchored to the real world. This project directly applied my Unity Mobile AR Development certification and gave me practical experience I couldn't get from tutorials alone.
