Roller-Baller

3D Casual / Collect

Role: Solo Developer Engine: Unity 3D Platform: PC (Unity Play)

Overview

Roller-Baller is a 3D casual game where you navigate a rolling ball across a level, collecting coins while avoiding enemies and lava hazards. Collect all coins before the timer runs out or it's game over. Built as a foundational Unity 3D project, Roller-Baller was where I first got hands-on with Unity's physics system, rigidbody movement, and 3D camera follow logic.

Key Programming Features

  • → Rigidbody-based ball movement using AddForce for physics-accurate rolling and momentum
  • → Smooth 3D camera follow system that tracks the ball without jitter using Lerp interpolation
  • → Coin pickup system with trigger colliders and a counter UI that updates in real time
  • → Enemy patrol behaviour — enemies move on predefined paths and trigger game over on contact
  • → Lava zone hazards implemented as trigger volumes that instantly reset the player
  • → Countdown timer with game over state when time expires before all coins are collected

What I Learned

Roller-Baller was an important early project where I learned how Unity's physics engine behaves with player-controlled Rigidbodies. Getting the ball to feel responsive without being twitchy required tuning drag, angular drag, and force application mode — small values that have a massive impact on feel. It gave me a lasting appreciation for game-feel iteration.
